ABSTRACT
Riska Sri Wulandari (A121 17 193). The Use of Problem Based Learning in
Developing Writing Skill of Grade VII Students of MTs Al-Khairaat Tondo.
Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education
Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under
the supervision of Mukrim and Hastini.
This research is intended to prove that the use of problem-based learning can
develop writing skill of grade VII students of MTs Al-Khairaat Tondo. The study
employs a quasi-experimental research design to assess the impact of PBL on
students' abilities in writing procedure text. The samples of this study were 16
students in class VII B as the experimental group and 15 students in class VII C as
the control group. They were selected by purposive sampling technique. The
research instrument utilized to collect the data was a test that was separated into a
pre-test and a post test.
The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of
the students’ achievement before and after treatment. The results shows the t-counted
value of 5.95, surpassing the critical t-table value of 2.045. Consequently, the
research hypothesis is accepted, signifying that the implementation of problembased learning significantly contributes to the development of writing skills among
Grade VII students at MTs Al-Khairaat Tondo in constructing procedure text. This
research underscores the efficacy of PBL as an instructional approach in fostering
writing proficiency and provides valuable insights for educators seeking innovative
strategies to enhance language learning outcomes especially writing procedure text.
