Penggunaan Sinopsis Film Untuk Mengembangkan Pemahaman Membaca Siswa Kelas Sebelas Di SMA Negeri 5 Palu

The objective of this research is to prove if the use of Movie Synopsis can develop reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Palu This research used pre-experimental design involving one group as the experimental group. The sample of this research was XI MIPA 5 with 23 students as the experimental group selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The pre-test was used to measure the students’ reading comprehension before treatment and the post-test was used to measure the students’ reading comprehension after the treatment. The data analysis indicates that there is a significant improvement between the results of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students before the treatment is 66.66. After giving the treatment, the mean score of the students in post-test 78.11. By applying 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of the t-counted (6.84) is higher than the t-table (1.717). In conclusion, the use of movie synopsis in teaching reading is effective to develop students’ reading comprehension of SMA Negeri 5 Palu. Based on these results, it implies that movie synopsis can be applied by teachers in teaching and learning process as one of effective media to develop students' reading comprehension.
