Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of whether using the Flower Writing Strategy can improve the writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Palu. This study applies a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study was eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Palu, which consisted of 2 classes. The selection of the sample from this study used a purposive sampling technique. The sample is class VIII K as the experimental group and class VIII J as the control group. The pretest results showed that the experimental group's average score was 59.9, while that of the control group was 62.1. The mean score of the experimental group increased significantly from 59.5
to 80.2. Furthermore, the results of the data analysis show that the value of t-counted 4.45 is greater than the value of t-table 2.01 by applying a 0.05 level of significance and degrees of freedom (df) 44. Therefore, the hypothesis in this study is accepted. In conclusion, the ability of eighth graders to write descriptive text at SMP Negeri 3 Palu can be improved through the Flower Writing Strategy.
