PERMASALAHAN BERBICARA YANG DIHADAPI PELAJAR EFL DI UNIVERSITAS TADULAKO ANGKATAN 2020

?Speaking problems can be found in linguistics and psychological aspects. This study aims to find out the most dominant problem in speaking English based on the two aspects. Another aim is to find out the causes of the speaking problems faced by EFL learners. The research design of this study was a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects involved were 23 students taking Speaking in Academic Context course. The instruments used to collect data were observation and in-depth interview. The findings showed that the most dominant problem faced by EFL learners is lack of vocabulary and the causes of the speaking problems faced by EFL learners are infrequently reading, low grammar mastery, infrequently listening to English vocabulary, lack of practice, being afraid of making mistake, feeling nervous and unconfident. The implication of this finding to the betterment of the students’ speaking skill is that the lecturers need to include the linguistic components when teaching speaking.
