PERSEPSI MAHASISWA PADA PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA INGGRIS ONLINE PADA JURUSAN BAHASA INGGRIS DI UIN DATOKARAMA PALU

ABSTRACT

English Department of UIN Datokarama Palu. Thesis, English Education
Study Program, Postgraduate, Teacher Training and Education Faculty,
Tadulako University, under the supervision of Mochtar Marhum and Rofiqoh
This research is aimed at finding out students’ perceptions on online
learning and the challenges found during the online learning at English
Departement of UIN Datokarama Palu. This research applied a descriptive
qualitative research design. The research subjects were 30 students of English
Department of UIN Datokarama Palu in academic year 2021/2022. The data
were collected by using questionnaire and interview. Based on the data analysis,
it showed that the students’ perceptions on online learning tended to be negative.
Online English learning cannot increase students’ interest, understanding, and
motivation in learning. The students also found some challenges in implementing
online English learning, such as; limited mobile phone facilities, limited internet
packages, poor signals problem, lack of understanding of using online
application, and difficult to collect the task online. The positive perceptions were
the process of English learning is easier, it can foster students’ independent
learning and it can save time in the learning process. Therefore, the finding of this
research was different from some other previous researches because the students
preferred offline learning to online learning.
