Abstract

Profile of Ovarian Cancer Patients in Undata Hospital, Palu

ABSTRACT

Background: Ovarian cancer is a gynecological malignancy and is found in women. Ovarian cancer consists of cells that make up the ovary divided into three types, namely: epithelial, germinal and stromal type ovarian cancer, because most of them originate from the epithelial type. Ovarian cancer is most often found when this cancer has metastasized outside the ovaries, therefore ovarian cancer is very difficult to treat both surgery and chemotherapy.

Objective: to identify the profile of ovarian cancer patients at Undata Hospital, Palu.

Methods: This research was quantitative research with a descriptive observational approach that intends to describe the profile of ovarian cancer patients at Undata Hospital, Palu through Cross Sectional as a research design. Sampling technique used was total sampling method. Data were obtained from secondary data in the form of medical records of patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer at Undata Hospital, Palu.

Results: There are 43 female patients are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In addition, the most age is found in female patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer aged 51-60 years. There are 16 (37.2%) patients, thoses with married status consists of 43 (100.00) patients, in the stage 3 there are 24 (55.8) patients, use of contraception oral administration in 32 (74.4) patients, histopathological type of high grade serous carcinoma in 5 (11.6) patients.

Conclusion: Age, Marital Status, Use of Oral Contraceptives are risk factors for ovarian cancer by showing the most stage 3, and histopathological examination of the epithelial type.
