Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the teachers’ strategies and to describe the application of the strategies in teaching writing at SMP Negeri 18 Model SPMI Palu. This research was conducted through descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this research were three English Teachers. The data were obtained by using an interview. The results showed that there are various strategies used by the English teachers in teaching writing. The strategies are brainstorming, demonstration, describing pictures and collaborative writing strategies. The application were different based on the situation and condition of the class. The use of these strategies are believed to establish the teaching and learning process to be active and effective, it solves the students’ problems and it can improve students’ ability in learning English, especially in writing.
