This research aims at finding out whether or not the use of Three Steps Interview
Technique can improve students’ speaking skill of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. The
researcher applied pre-experimental research design in which it only involved one
single group was given the pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The instruments of
data collection are pre-test and post-test. The pretest was used to measure prior
knowledge of the students and the posttest was used to measure the development
of the students’ speaking skill after the treatment. The ttest formula was used to
analyze the significant difference of the group between pre-test and post-test. The
result of data analysis shows that the mean score of the group on the post-test
(74.17) is higher than the mean score of the group on the pre-test (44.58). then,
referring to the ttable value of df 23 (24-1)by applying 0.05 level of significance,
the researcher found that the tcounted value of this research (10.16) is higher than the
ttable value (1.714). Therefore, it can be concluded that the hypothesis of this
research is accepted; in which the use of Three Steps Interview Technique can
improve students’ speaking skill of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat apakah penggunaan Teknik
Wawancara Tiga Langkah dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa
SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. Peneliti mengaplikasikan desain pre-eksperimental
dimana hanya ada satu kelompok yang diberikan pra-tes, perlakuan, dan pasca-
tes. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah pra-tes dan pasca-tes.
Pra-tes digunakan untuk mengukur keterampilan awal siswa dan pasca-tes
digunakan untuk mengukur perkembangan keterampilan berbicara siswa setelah
diberi perlakuan. Rumus ttes digunakan untuk menganalisa perbedaan yang
signifikan dari kelompok tunggal atas pra-tes dan pasca-tes. Hasil analisis data
menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kelompok pada pasca-tes (74.17) lebih tinggi
dari nilai rata-rata kelompok pada pra-tes (44.58). Kemudian, merujuk pada nilai
ttabel dari df 23 (24-1) dengan mengaplikasikan 0.05 signifikan level, peneliti
menemukan bahwa nilai thitung penelitian ini (10.16) lebih tinggi dari nilai ttabel
(1.714). Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa hipotesa penelitian diterima;
di mana penggunaan Teknik Wawancara Tiga Langkah dapat meningkatkan
keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu.
