Tingkat Penguasaan Kosakata Siswa Kelas Delapan SMPN 3 Palu

The objective of this research aims at finding out the students’ level on vocabulary mastery of grade VIII at SMPN 3 Palu. This research was conducted through a descriptive qualitative research design in which the results are tabulated and described. Based on the calculation, it is found that four students’ scores belong to the excellent category (11.43%) as they obtained final scores range in 95-100; five students’ scores belong to the very good category (14.29%) as their final scores range in 91-94; 14 students’ scores belong to the good category (40.00%) as these students obtained final scores range in 81-90; six students belong to the enough category (17.14%) because they obtained final scores range in 75-80, and six students belong to the poor category (17.14%) because they obtained final scores range in 40-74 or below the passing grade. In conclusion, the majority of the students have sufficient vocabulary when taking the test. On the other hand, there are also some students still find difficulties in vocabulary. This was due to lack of understanding and background knowledge of vocabulary.
