UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN SAMBUNG NYAWA (Gynura Procumbens (Lour.) Merr.) TERHADAP Escherichia Coli

ABSTRACT

Sambung Nyawa (Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr.) is one of the Asteraceae family plant that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. The aim of this study were to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extracts of Sambung Nyawa leaves (Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr.) against Escherichia coli and identification of chemical components by TLC bioautography. Extraction of active compounds using maceration method with ethanol 95%. Antibacterial activity testing was carried out with variants of concentrations of 15%, 10%, 5%, 1%, and 0,5% using the wells method.the study that has been carried out, it is obtained that the ethanolic extracts of Sambung Nyawa leaves has largest diameter of inhibition against Escherichia coli is about 10,0 ± 0,2 mm at a concentration of 15%. Based on bioautographic TLC testing with eluen n-hexane : ethyl acetate (3:1) and ethyl acetate : chloroform (1:3) using spray reagents, the results were obtained that the ethanol extract of the sambung nyawa leaves had antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and the compounds suspected of having a role in antibacterial activity are flavonoids, saponins, phenolics, and alkaloids.
