ABSTRACT
Riska (A 121 14 149). “Using Photograph to Improve the Ability of the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 3 Palu in Writing Descriptive Paragraph”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Nadrun.
The objective of the research is to find out whether or not the use of photograph can improve the ability of the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Palu in wiritng descriptive paragraph. Additionally, this research was conducted through quasi experimental research design in which the samples of the research were VIII B and VIII D. The obtained data of this research were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference between two groups on the posttest after the treatment using photograph given to the experimental group. It was found that the mean scores of both the experimental and control groups on the posttest were respectively 87.22 and 83.33. Furthermore, referring to the ttable value of df 35 (19+18-2) by applying 0.05 level of significance on one-tailed test, it was found that the tcounted value of this research (4.58) was higher than the ttable value (1.69). On top of that, using photograph can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Palu.
