Using Round Robin Technique To Improve The Speaking Skills Of Grade XI Students Of Man 1 Palu

Nur Indah Lahamu, A 121 13 036. “Using Round Robin Technique to Improve the
Speaking Skills of Grade XI Students of Man 1 Palu”, A skripsi, teacher Training
and Education Faculty, Language and Art Department, English Education Study
program, under the supervision of Sudarkam R. Mertosono and Wahyudin.
This research aims to prove if using Round Robin Technique can improve the
speaking skills of Grade XI students of MAN 1 Palu. The researcher applied preexperimental research design one-group pre-test and post-test. The sample of this
research was a group of Grade XI students of Man 1 Palu consisting of 20 students
selected by using total sampling technique. The instrument used in collecting data
was a test given as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was used to measure the
students’ prior skill in speaking before implementing Round Robin Technique, and
post-test was used to find out the improvement of the students’ speaking skill after
the treatment. The data gathered from the test were analyzed statistically. The result
shows that there is a significant improvement between the students’ score on pre-test
(60.62) and the students’ score on the post-test (78.75). By applying one-tailed test at
0.05 level of significance with 28 degree of freedom (df), the researcher found that
the value of t-counted (9.45) is higher than the value t-table (1.7290, meaning that
the researcher hypothesis is accepted. Thus, using Round Robin Technique can
improve speaking skills of the students of Man 1 Palu.
