Abstract

The objective of this research was to prove whether the use of Contextualized
Situation can develop the students’ ability in writing short paragraph of SMP
Swastyastu Tolai. The population of the research was divided into three parallel
classes. In taking the sample of research, the researcher applied cluster sampling
method. The design of this research was experimental research which used two
sample groups, experimental and control groups. The data was gathered from pre-test
and post-test. The result of pre-test and post-test were analyzed and compared by
using the t-counted formula in order to test whether the mean score of the students
were significantly different as the result of the treatment. The result of the data
analysis shown that the post-test in experimental group (180.4) was higher than pre
test (119.2) and post-test in control group (101.4) was higher than pre-test (83.7), t
counted value (5.512) was higher than t-table (2.021) and the fact that t-table at the
0.05 level of significance 40 (21+21-2) degree of freedom (df) exceeds t-counted =
5.512. It proves that the use of contextualized situation can develop the students’
ability in writing short paragraph of SMP Swastyastu Tolai.
