IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILL OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMAN MODEL TERPADU MADANI PALU THROUGH IMPROMPTU SPEECH

This research aims at proving that the implementation of Impromptu Speech
improves the speaking skill of second year students of SMAN Model Terpadu Madani
Palu, especially in expressing opinion using PREP Framework. The researcher
applied quasi-experimental research design. The population was 204 students
enrolled in academic year 2018/2019. The samples were class XII IPA 4 as the
experimental group and class XII IPA 3 as the control group. These samples were
selected by using cluster random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the
researcher used oral performance and survey method as the techniques. After
analyzing all the gathered data, the data analysis shows that there is improvement on
students speaking skill. It was proved by the data from the mean scores that the post
test was 82.78 while the control class was 78.16. The researcher also found that the t�counted (3.06) was much higher than the t-table (1.6745) that indicated the hypothesis of
the research was accepted. Moreover,in supporting the main data, the analysis of the
questionnaire also indicated that the students agree that Impromptu Speech is
advantegeous for the students to improve their speaking skill.
