DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 3 PALU THROUGH ZIP ZAP GAME

Nursan (A 121 12 O82). This skripsi is entitled Developing Speaking Skill of the Seventh Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Palu through Zip Zap Game, under the supervisior of Ferry Rita and Nadrun.
The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of zip zap game in developing speaking skill of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Palu. This research used quasi-experimental research design by involving an experimental group and a control group. The population of the research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu. The sample was taken by applying purposive sampling technique. The sample is 30 students of VII A as the experimental group and 29 students of VII D as the control group. The technique in collecting data is test (pretest and posttest). The pretest is conducted before treatment while the posttest is conducted after treatment. The treatment was conducted for eight meetings. The results of the tests show that the mean score of the experimental group on pre test is 53 and the mean score of the control group on pre test is 57,06. The mean score of the experimental group on post test is 78,46 and the mean score of the control group on post test is 70,79. The statistical test shows that there are significant differences between the score of the experimental and the control groups. It indicates by the t-counted (6,52) is higher than the t-table (2,003) by applying 0.05 level of significance and the degree of freedom (df) was 57 (df=30+29-2= 57). In conclusion, zip zap game can develop speaking skill of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Palu.
