DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILL OF GRADE VIII STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 8 PASANGKAYU THROUGH SHORT DIALOGUE

This research was carried out in order the used of short dialogue can develop
the students speaking skills. The researcher applied a pre-experimental research
design. The population of this research was the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 8
Pasangkayu. The sample of this research was selected by using cluster sampling
technique. The instruments of data collection were tests which distributed to the
students. The data was analyzed statistically in order to know the significant difference
of the students improvement in pre-test and post-test. Having analyzed the data, the
mean of the pre-test was (61,90) and post-test (75,68). By applying 0,05 level of
significance with 24 (25-1) degree of freedom (df), it was found out that t-counted value
(11,11) is greater than t-table value (1,711). The results of data analysis showed that the
hypothesis is accepted. It means that the use of short dialogue can develop students’
speaking skill
