USING SQ3R TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 6 PALU

Reading Comprehension of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 6 Palu”.

The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of SQ3R
technique can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of
SMA Negeri 6 Palu. The method used quasi-experimental - nonequivalent group
pre-test post-test control group research design. The samples of the research were
selected by using cluster sampling technique, and the samples were XI MIA 2 as
experimental group and XI MIA 3 as control group. The technique of data
collection is test. The test was administered twice; pre-test and post-test. The data
were analyzed by using t-test statistical. Based on the result of the test, the mean
score of post-test for the experimental group is 82.12, while the mean score of
post-test for the control group is 70.36. The result of the data analysis shows that
the t-counted value (3.08) is greater than the t-table value (2.0126) by applying
0.05 level of significance and 34 degrees of freedom (df). The result of the test
indicates that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using SQ3R technique
can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA
Negeri 6 Palu.
