Abstract

Eviyanti (A12121220). Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Visualization Strategy of SMP Negeri 20 Palu. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Afrillia Anggreni and Andi Patmasari.

This study aimed to improve the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students through the use of a visualization strategy at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study consisted of 105 students from classes VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, and VIII D. The samples were class VIII C as the experimental group and class VIII B as the control group, selected through random sampling. The researcher administered pre-tests and post-tests to collect data. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group on the post-test (78) was higher than that of the control group (63). This was confirmed by calculations using SPSS version 27, where the significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000, which was smaller than 0.05. This indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. These findings suggest that the use of the visualization strategy was effective in improving students’ reading comprehension, particularly in understanding literal information in descriptive texts.
