Abstract

NURUL MAWADDAH U MAKUTA, 2025. “The Use of Song to Enhance Students` Vocabulary Mastery of SMA Negeri 5 Palu.” Under the supervision of Prof. Konder Manurung, DEA., Ph.D, and Afrillia Anggreni, M.Pd.
This study aims to investigate the effect of the use of song to enhance students` vocabulary mastery of SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test and post-test control group design. The researcher used a random sampling technique, consisting of two classes as the sample: an experimental class and a control class. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS software. The researcher used the Mann-Whitney U Test to analyze the data. The results of the Mann-Whitney test indicate that there is a significant difference between the vocabulary learning outcomes of students in the experimental class and those in the control class. This is shown by the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of < 0.001, which is smaller than 0.05. The mean rank of the experimental class (Mean Rank = 36.96) is also higher than that of the control class (Mean Rank = 20.04). Therefore, it can be concluded that the Use of Song to Enhance Vocabulary method is significantly more effective in improving students’ vocabulary learning outcomes compared to the conventional method.
